Chapter 1: Major distraction

(in an apartment, Dina Hall sits on a couch and tries to read a magazine until she hears very loud tapping and loud jazz music upstairs)

Dina H.: (narrating) Oy! Here we go again! It seems that I really can't get anything done around here with that noise above me. I mean, not that I don't mind, but goodness gracious, everyday for the last two weeks, I've been hearing that....noise. (sighs) I guess I made the wrong decision when I wanted to live in an apartment, but on the bright side, it's just temporary. That's not all, below me, there's a couple argruing and fighting with each other, it's been quiet since then, so my guess is they've separated. None of that matters at the moment now, because I'm wondering if whoever's above me is doing this on purpose or what. Funny thing is, no one else hears the dancing but me! Well, enough is enough! (drops her magazine) I'm going to go up right now and find out what's going on.

(Dina storms upstairs and tries to figure out which door it is. Meanwhile, there are neighbors all around playing music, having a party, or just plain yelling. Dina finally finds the door which lead to the dancing and jazz music. She knocks a few times, then the music stops abruptly. She knocks again and then hears the sound of the door being unlocked. She slowly places her hand on the doorknob then turns it. Inside is a room with music and movie posters all over the wall. There is a stereo and a couch sitting in the middle of the room. Most of the room was bare with a shining, polished floor. Dina closes the door behind her slowly and sees a picture of Fred Astaire on the wall. She smiles to herself as she walks around the room and then startles and turns around to hear footsteps. She pretends she hasn't seen him before although she has, and instead she gives a sigh of relief when she sees who walks in.)

AJ: (smiles) Oh, hello there. (Dina crosses her arms and has a straight face) I suppose you were the one knocking earlier.

Dina: (speaks) Well, yes. Anyway...(AJ slowly walks toward Dina; she looks him up and down)....by any chance you were dancing earlier?

AJ: Yes, you see, I'm by myself now, but I'm so glad that you came.

Dina: (sarcastically) Really?

AJ: Well-oh! I would like to know your name.

Dina: My name is Dina Hall and I live downstairs. I was reading until I got distracted.

AJ: (gasps) Ohhhh! I'm sorry if I disturbed you, but I do tend to get carried away.

Dina: On purpose?

AJ: (laughing) Not really.

Dina: Whatever. Look, lately I've been hearing you, and no offense, but today got me annoyed because I've had a rough week and everything, and you just made the icing on the cake for me with your noise, so if you don't mind, would you please turn it down because I'm actually looking for a bit of peace ever since I moved here. (silence) Thank you and good night. (prepares to leave but AJ grabs her arm)

AJ: Wait. Before you go, wouldn't you like to know who I am or do you already know because you look like you know me.

Dina: (lets go of AJ's grip) No, I don't; as in I don't know who you are and I don't want to know. Happy? (smiles then storms out back to her room; AJ stands by the door and smiles)

AJ: (crosses his legs and chuckles) Good night! (Dina's door slams shut; AJ goes back in andcloses his door)
